Australia?s Andrew Tye on his way to a 24-wicket season in the IPL 2018

Andrew Tye has no qualms admitting his initial outing in international cricket was tough and one that left him doubting his own credentials. But after a successful stint with the Kings XI Punjab in the Indian Premier League, the Australian pacer is oozing with confidence and is keen to rectify his record in national colours.Tye finished the regular season in the IPL with 24 wickets, four clear of his nearest rival, Umesh Yadav. His accomplishments have him poised to become the first Australian bowler since the inauguration of the IPL in 2008 to win the much famed ?purple cap?.But more than the cap, it is the self-belief Tye has acquired playing in the tournament that has him geared up to take the mantle of ?go to guy? in the limited overs format for Australia.
?To be fair, my first international phase for Australia was tough. I had done well in the BBL, but it was while playing at national level that I probably lost a bit of confidence,? Tye told foxsports.com.au after the last match of the season.?That was the time I was a bit worried because I had not done it against the world?s best and you start doubting yourself.?Then last year I had a great start to my IPL, but I got injured. And then to have the year I have had this year - T20s, Big Bash and now the leading wicket taker in the IPL - it?s just given me the belief once again.?It is the only competition in the world, apart from international cricket, where you get to play against the elite players in the world and really test your pedigree.?I now have the confidence of doing it against the best players in the world.?
