Banned Australian cricketers David Warner and Cameron Bancroft will
return to the game in just over a month after committing to play in the
Northern Territory?s Strike League.Warner was given a 12 month
suspension, along with captain Steve Smith, and Bancroft a nine-month
ban for their roles in the ball-tampering saga during the tour of South
Africa. The bans prevented the players from competing in international or
domestic competitions but they were encouraged by Cricket Australia to
play club cricket.
Warner will play two games in the tournament, while
Bancroft will be available for the entire event that runs in Darwin from
July 1-29.Warner admitted his interest in playing in the Strike League
had piqued after a recent promotional visit to the top end where he took
part in a kids' coaching clinic.?I?m really looking forward to playing
in the Strike League in July. I heard so much about the competition
while I was in Darwin earlier this month that I?m keen to be part of
it,? said Warner.Northern Territory cricket chief executive officer Joel
Morrison welcomed the addition of the star duo and said talks were
continuing with other high profile players across Australia.
